Winter 2009
TRAINING TIPS

Happy New Year!

The Winter 2009 issue of Building the Body quarterly is complete and it's one of our best ever.  The cover is a painting by Chris Dent and it's quite impressive.  The issue is filled with interesting articles.  Just by reading the table of contents and the article description can be a learning experience and even more so when you subscribe.

CHECK OUT THIS ISSUE:

Bodybuilding and Longevity looks at the average age of 30 bodybuilders who've passed away from natural causes and explores the reason why bodybuilder live longer than the average person .  Average age at passing was 81 for these bodybuilders on the other side.

The Art of Peaking investigates how to reach a physical and mental performance peak for weight lifting, physique, school examinations, and on stage performance.  The secret is frequent practice sessions spaced at the right intervals.  I had the pleasure to interview Steve Vai about how he trains for his musical performances as well as how he has been training for triathlons.

Get Waisted give a good introductory abdominal training program to get back in shape after the holidays, it is a precursor to the ab routines in High Def Handbook.  Can you do 30 leg raises and 30 crunches right now?

The Anatomy of a Set explores what's going inside your head during set performance, i.e. counting reps, breathing attention, sensation and movement awareness and why a set should be over with the first thought of failure or doubt.  What are super sets good for anyway?

Seasonal Training for Longevity is about why your body will last longer training according to the seasons.  You simply live like a tree: new growth in the springtime, rapid growth in summer, peaking in autumn as leaves turn colors, maintenance, specialization,  and recuperation in winter.

Longevity and Higher Human Development - transpersonalist John White contributes a  brilliant informative article with examples of very long lives of Yogis, some over 200 years old.  What do these practices have in common with advanced aging?  Higher states of consciousness resulting from meditation.

Get Smaller looks at why shrinkage is a common phenomena with aging.  The oldest living people all have one thing in common:  They are small.  What's the best way to achieve body parsimony so you don't have to carry excess baggage around with you?

1971 relives the summer I spent with my wife Christine in South Africa giving posing exhibitions and training for the 71 NABBA Professional Mr. Universe in London.  What happened during that competition taught me how to act like the winner when competing.

Ernest Eagleheart is dream symbolizing the reality of human perception.  It contains messages which can lead to the evolution of human awareness and consciousness.

The HOME Zane Experience describes how you can stay motivated and make progress by working with me over the phone and with email photographs.  It's the next best thing to coming to see me in person for San Diego Zane Experience.

Consider subscribing if you do not already do so.  You'll get some insight into body mind connection topics and save 10% on the purchase of my unique food supplements.
